Resin and New Workshop Schedule

This week in my studio I was pouring epoxy resin on some of my completed paintings. This creates a clear high gloss coating that both seals and adds new depth to the work.Screen Shot 2015-11-29 at 1.07.05 PMWhen using for the first time, it can be a little scary when applying the resin. After all, you’re pouring this thick gooey stuff on your artwork that took you many hours to create. In truth, like a lot of things if you know what you are doing it’s not that difficult. People have been asking, so I am now offering a workshop that includes applying epoxy resin.

Here are three different workshops to choose from, including dates for the beginning of 2016 thru May:

Introductory Mixed Media Workshop 2016
January 10/ February 14,21/ March 13,20/ April 10,17/ May 8,15
This fun, concentrated workshop will have you exploring and practicing ideas and techniques used in creating mixed media abstract art. I will be sharing methods to approach composition, color and texture, while discussing intuition, and letting go. All paint and materials are provided. You may bring any water-soluble paints or favorite brushes you like to work with, but not needed.
All skill levels welcomed-No artistic experience necessary. All that is needed is a positive attitude and a willingness to play.
Hours:  1-4:30 pm
Cost for each workshop – 75.00 (15% discount for signing up for two or more workshops in advance.)

New! Painting and Epoxy Resin workshop 2016
January 17 (only one workshop scheduled at this time)
In this workshop you paint for the first three hours and then you get to coat a 12’ X 12” painting with epoxy resin. If concerned you won’t finish a painting that day, you have the option to bring a completed small painting 12” X 12” that was created on wood to this workshop, and we’ll use that to coat with resin.
All painting materials supplied including: You will get a 32oz epoxy resin starter kit. The epoxy resin is considered a non-hazardous material and is non toxic when used as directed.
This workshop needs to be prepaid by no later than January 4th which will allow time to order the epoxy resin and have it in time for the workshop.
Hours: 12-4:30 pm
Cost for each workshop – 175.00 (15% discount for signing up for two or more workshops in advance.) Limit of 6 participants

This workshop has an option to bring something you are working on. Note: If you want to bring large work, you’ll need to let me know the size to make sure there is enough room in the studio. Also if you want to work vertical, you will need to bring your own easel, and possibly larger brushes.
All skill levels welcomed-No artistic experience necessary.
All that is needed is a positive attitude and a willingness to play.

“First of all, I just want to thank you again for the workshop. I got a lot out of it! The very next day, I went to the studio to work on something that’s been on my easel for over 9 months, and, with trepidation in my heart and hands, laid down an abstract background of shapes, colors, darks and lights etc just like you showed us. Oh my God, was I ever nervous! But it turned out great and just started making itself from there. Cool!”

What Not to Do on Thanksgiving

134. Absence-of-mind-12-X-12

I can’t tell you what not to do on Thanksgiving, other than the usual recommendations. Don’t overeat, and don’t fight with your relatives, blah, blah, blah. Hell, who I am to say? History shows I’ll most likely overeat. Forget it on the what not to do, instead I will share here what I will be doing. I’ll be giving thanks for several things in my life. First on that list would be of course the people. Without them life would be really uninteresting, and in fact quite lonely. I’d write this silly blog and no one would read it (at this point you might wish I was lonely). Next on this list would be giving thanks for the fact I get to paint and make stuff for a living. Ok that’s it. I’m done with my list. If you talk to my wife, let her know I included both the cats on this list.

Coming up
You’re invited to an opening reception at The Passdoor on Saturday, November 28, 5-7pm. I’ll be showing new work with two other wonderful artists, Joy Stocksdale, and Wayne Berger. Come by and check out the art. Live harmonic music will provided by Judith Lerner. The Passdoor is located at the Barlow – 6780 McKinley St #150, Sebastopol, CA.  (707)634-0015

“Living is a form of not being sure, not knowing what next or how. The moment you know how, you begin to die a little. The artist never entirely knows. We guess. We may be wrong, but we take leap after leap in the dark.”
